this summer

this summer is flying by. i'm not sure how this happens every year? the time you wish you could slow down, enjoy, lavish in....it's here and then it's gone.

we are, in my opinion, having an odd summer. it's full of transitions. brian is working 7 days a week - 5 days at one job, 2 days at another. he's a crazy man. i on the other hand, am not working. well, i am. i set up my pay checks a few years ago now to stretch out through the entire year, instead of just the school year. so, for the first time, i'm taking advantage of that. i just finished up my first graduate class and am now half way through two more - summer intensive course...WOW! talk about fast. and, because i can't handle the not working - as much as brian tells me to enjoy it while i can - i am working the next two weeks doing this INCREDIBLE freelance job! i couldn't pass it up.

we have managed to do some fun things together this summer....

1. BBQs: we have enjoyed a few of these. our backyard, our friends backyard. lots of fun.
2. Walks on the beach: we are so lucky to live just down the street from some incredible beaches. olive loves to run straight for the water. i don't think that will ever change 9i hope it doesn't)
3. Paddle Boarding: we tried this for the first time a few days ago. SO MUCH FUN! olive even sat on the board while i paddled out. for sure the best family fun day this summer!
4. Musical in the park: we went to see willy wonka. olive LOVED it. she kept yelling "mr. wonka, i want to talk to you" throughout the show. and after the show, she was able to get a picture with him. she was pumped!
5. Family movie nights: i like these. it's a guilty pleasure to have the 3 of us squeeze on our couch, all cuddled up, and watch a kid-friendly movie. olive's favorite so far, "honey i shrunk the kids."
6. Reading in the park: olive and i have bought a few new books this summer and we have been bringing a blanket to the park at least once a week and reading. i think we've both loved it - and i love that she LOVES to read!
7. Gymnastics: this is something that olive started (thanks mom) this summer. both brian and i have gotten a chance to see her in action. she has so much FUN!

... there is  more to come. i'm especially looking forward to seeing bruce springsteen at fenway in august! brian's graduation present to himself, and i'm psyched to go along.

heres to hoping summer will slow down just a little bit :-)
