Short and sweet

We got an iPad for Christmas and we have all been having fun with it since. Lots of great educational apps (see screen shot below) for Olive and great apps for Brian and I. Like I said, fun for all!

Here are a few photos too...

FOURTH birthday photos

Olive had a wonderful birthday! Thank you to all who help make it so wonderful!!!

It started off with some early morning dress up, ironing and fun! At night Olive had a princess tea / pizza party, which was a great time had by for all! Then, last night a birthday cake with family!

She is a lucky girl to have so many that love her!

Happy Birthday Olive!

It's hard to believe that we have had this amazing girl in our lives for four years! We are so incredibly lucky to be her parents. We learn so much from her every day, and every minute of those days we are dazed by how much more we can love her.

Thank you Olive for having us as your parents. We love you beyond words!

learning

Olive and I have been home the last two days because of Sandy. It's virtually impossible to get my school work done with a busy almost-four-year-old running around, so I have taken the time to sort through Olive's play room and making it a more organized environment.

With no power yesterday we cleaned her play room, read a lot of books, learned about butterflies, cut out circles to make a solar system, worked with sandpaper letters and did a lot of counting.... the girl loves to count!

This morning Olive chose to work on sounding out words and letters. It amazes me, listening to her sound out letters and figuring out what word it is!

It's been so nice having time with Olive. As schools reopen tomorrow it will be back to our normal IMPOSSIBLY busy schedules. For now, I'm enjoying every moment of these last two days.

How is it possible?

It's hard to believe that she is going to be FOUR next month! It feels like in the last few months she has gotten so much older...

... her pretend play is so amazing to listen to. The conversations she has with her babies or paper dolls (she just became obsessed with paper dolls in the last few weeks) is so crazy. Her imagination is inspiring!

She is finally settling in at Cornerstone as well. Montessori and Olive seem to fit quite nicely together. It's been a difficult transition though. Between moving to a new school, being there five days a week (instead of the three days she was at Busy Bees), and having to get used to both Brian and my new schedules.... it's been a lot. I think that Brian and Olive are doing much better than I am with their schedules. I still haven't found my groove. But, I will.

Sadly, yesterday my computer decided to die. I don't think it couldn't handle the amount of usage it was getting being in grad school. I am hoping that we haven't lost all of our pictures... ALL of our photos of Olive are on my lap top. I hope that we can save up for a new Mac soon, so I can get back to writing papers, editing video (for class) and conducting research. For now, Brian and I will share his computer... or rather, I will be stealing it away from him while I'm at school or at the library (which is pretty much ALL THE TIME.

Okay, it's back to carefully taking out all the paper doll dresses from Olive's latest paper doll book. I love my time with her.... and I will be excited when we have more of it!

NYC

A few weeks ago Olive and I took a trip to visit my brother in (Brooklyn) New York. Olive had entirely too much fun.

We spent most of the day in Central Park. Between water play and the zoo, it was the perfect place to be on a hot day. She had so much fun. So much that she quickly fell asleep in my arms once picked up. After a few blocks of walking with a passed out 3 1/2 year old, I handed her off to Mike. Best brother/uncle EVER! The rest of the day was spent walking around (note to self: bring the BOB next time) and then ended the day at a birthday party in Brooklyn, where Olive got to see her friend Nohli, and make new friends with several other kids! All-in-all, the trip was a blast.

When we got home on Sunday, I asked Olive what her favorite part of visiting Uncle Michael was. Her response,  "the subway." Who knew.

Can't wait to visit again SOON!
